Tour overview

This 5 Days Rwanda primates adventure is one of our most selling Rwanda Safari tour packages. Get an opportunity to encounter the endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park and embark on a community cultural tour to Ibwiwachu Village which is located just outside the national park. You will also get to embark on an adventurous journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park where you will get to do chimpanzee trekking in Cyamudongo Forest, and also take a short hike along Ishigishigi trail to and from the canopy walk bridge.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali international airport and transfer to Volcanoes.

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and greeted by our friendly driver guide who will brief you and take you through   your trip plan. Before you know it, you will be transferred to Volcanoes national park where you will check in the lodge for relaxation, overnight stay and dinner.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking at Volcanoes national park

On this day, you will have a great time meeting with the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park! After a tasty breakfast, you guide will pick you from the lodge. You will head for briefing by ranger guides at 7:30 and at 8:30am with packed lunch. You will start the trek to hunt for the gorillas and after finding them you will spend with them a maximum of 1 hour. This walk can take 4-5 hours depending on where you meet the gorillas. The park is steep, it is a real hiking and being physically fit is recommended. After trekking, you will return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking & transfer to Nyungwe forest national park.

This will take us through the edges of the forest via potato fields and the briefing will be conducted in the same place where the usual Kinigi park office is located this means the trekking will take us 3-4 hours after the trekking, we shall return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, you will check out of the lodge with the help of your guide for you transfer to Nyungwe forest national park where you will check-in at the lodge for relaxation upon arrival.

Golden Monkey Trekking in Rwanda

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and canopy walk

After an early breakfast, we leave for Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest. The forest is rich in botanical diversity and home to 13 species of primates including Chimpanzees, L’Hoest monkeys, and Columbus monkeys with 300 bird species. Your tour guide will transfer you to the briefing area where you will meet your ranger guide and receive briefing before you start your trek. After lunch, you will start a canopy walk in the afternoon. The canopy walk is a guided tour starting from the Uwinka Visitors centre in Nyungwe Forest with a 30 minutes walk via the Igishigishi Trail. The trail begins with a steep slope, but the views atop the canopy make it worth it! On a clear day you can see Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at the same lodge.

Day 5: City tour and transfer to the airport

At 7:00 am you will have breakfast and transfer to Kigali for the city tour. You will visit the genocide history with a visit to Gisozi genocide memorial museum where you will learn more about the history of genocide memorial and how it went throughout the country. After lunch, you will visit the fire house which is the area where the plane that was carrying president Habyarima was brought down, that late sparked the famous 1994 Rwanda genocide. You will then visit the Belgium museum and learn more about Rwanda’s culture.  You will then be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
