This is the perfect gorilla safari option for travelers with limited time but would still love to experience the unforgettable adventure of meeting the mountain gorillas in the wild.

Itinerary overview

This 1-day silverback gorilla tour begins as early as 4:30am with a pickup from your hotel in Kigali and ends with a drop off at 6:30pm at either your hotel or Kigali International Airport.

Detailed itinerary

Wake up before 4:30am for a breakfast at your hotel then at 4:30am your driver guide will pick you up from the hotel and give you an insight into this 1-day gorilla safari as you transfer to Volcanoes national park. The drive to Volcanoes national park will take about 2 hours and 30 minutes. On arrival in Kinigi, you will be transferred to Volcanoes national park headquarters for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. During the briefing, you will be given insights into gorilla behavior, gorilla trekking dress code and code of contact while on this gorilla trekking experience.

After briefing, you will be grouped into 8 and each group assigned a gorilla family to visit and along with your group members and a ranger guide, you will proceed to the starting point of the trek from where you will start your hike in search of the mountain gorillas in their natural thick vegetation habitat.

This will take you between 3 to 5 hours with one hour allowed in the presence of these endangered species observing them and taking photographs. You will then return to the starting point where you will meet your driver guide and start yet another scenic drive to Kigali with a lunch stopover en route. In Kigali, the driver guide will drop you off either at the hotel or Kigali international airport for your onward flight.
