Detailed Itinerary of 6 Days Rwanda Primates Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

On landing at Kigali International Airport you will be warmly welcomed by a Rwanda Gorilla Trek  representative – your driver-guide and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali for a short rest. Later go for a Kigali City Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Kimironko Market giving you a thrilling introduction to Kigali and Rwanda.

Accommodation: Four Points Kigali  

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park & Iby’Iwacu Village

After breakfast, you will meet your driver guide and journey to Volcanoes National Park which is 3 hours’ drive away passing through the hilly landscape Rwanda is known for. When you arrive in Kinigi, check in at your lodge for short rest and enjoy the lodge’s facilities.

In the afternoon you will go for a cultural visit to the Gorillas Guardian Village where you will meet and interact with the local people, be entertained by local dances and drama among others. You can also take part in preparing in several local dishes and in crowning of the king and his queen, giving you a deeper insight into the lifestyle, culture and tradition of the Rwanda people.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Wake up early for breakfast, be picked up by your driver guide and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing session in which a senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of the gorillas.

Head into the forest led by armed ranger guides in search for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. On locating these gentle giants you will spend one hour in their presence as you observe their behavior, watch them play, feed and groom each other. Trek back to the starting point, meet your driver guide and return to your lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking & Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Return to the Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey trekking after breakfast. Join other visitors for briefing, enter into the forest led by armed rangers search for golden monkeys. The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more, you will spend one hour with the golden monkeys watching them play, feed and groom each other.

Return to your lodge for lunch and short rest. Later check out and embark on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park, arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience

Wake up early for breakfast and head to Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee trekking. After briefing conducted by a senior ranger guide, you will head into the forest led by armed ranger guides searching for chimpanzees.

The trek takes approximately 2-4 hours or more depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night. Spend an hour in their presence watching their family dynamics, observe their different characteristics and take amazing videos and pictures among others. Return to your lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Departure

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and drive back to Kigali City where you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back home or to your next destination
