Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: City tour and transfer to Volcanoes national park

On arrival, you will be picked by your designated driver guide. He will welcome you to Rwanda, give a briefing on this 3-day primate safari and then you will proceed on a tour of the city of Kigali. During the city tour, you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial, the local kimironko market and craft centres.

After the Kigali sightseeing, you will have a stopover at a local restaurant within the city for a lunch break. After lunch, embark on a 2-3 hours’ drive to Volcanoes national park where you will check in at your gorilla lodge on arrival.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Iby’iwacu cultural visit

After an early breakfast at the lodge, well prepared in your proper trekking outfit (long trousers, long-sleeved shirt, rain jacket, hiking boots, garden gloves), your driver guide will pick you up and transfer you to Volcanoes national park headquarters for a briefing on the guidelines of gorilla trekking.

Once at the park headquarters, you will assemble for the gorilla trekking briefing after which you will be distributed into groups of 8 and each group assigned a ranger guide and a gorilla family to visit. Your driver guide will then transfer you to the trek trailhead from where you will leave and head into the forest in search of the gorilla family assigned to you.

This hike will take you between 3 to 5 hours and once you locate the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed 1-hour in the presence mountain gorillas observing them and taking photos. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for a lunch break. Later, head out for a visit to the Iby’iwacu cultural village where you will experience the culture of Rwanda through traditional dances, music, poems, stories and dress code. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Golden trekking and return to Kigali

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the park briefing point for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of golden monkey trekking. After the briefing, proceed on the hike in search of the golden monkeys. The golden monkey trek will take you through the edges of the forest via potato fields. The trek will take us 2-3 hours and after the trek, we shall return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, check out of the lodge and drive back to Kigali for your onward flight.
