Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and shoebill tracking

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met and greeted by a company representative who will welcome you to Uganda, the pearl of Africa.

He will then assist you to the vehicle and transfer you to your hotel located approximately 20 minutes away from Entebbe International Airport where you will check in at arrival for refreshment and relaxation.

While in Entebbe, you can take part in some optional activities such as Mabamba shoebill tracking, visit to the UWEC, visit to the Entebbe botanical gardens, visit to craft shops and local markets. In the evening at the lodge, your designated driver guide will share with you insights into this tour and activities just before dinner.

 Day 2: Fly to Kisoro

Wake up for an early breakfast at the hotel then the company representative will transfer you to Entebbe International Airport where you will catch your transfer flight to Kisoro. On arrival in Kisoro, you will be met by the company driver guide who will transfer you to your lodge where you will arrive just in time for lunch. After lunch, you can enjoy an afternoon of relaxation at the lodge or go out for a guided community walk through the local communities.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking

The lodge will provide you with an early breakfast at 6:30am and at 7:00am with a packed lunch, the right clothing, and water, leave for the Mgahinga national park headquarters. Once at the park headquarters, you will assemble for a briefing on the dos and don’t of gorilla trekking adventure and what to expect. After the briefing, you will be distributed into groups of 8 and each gorilla family assigned a gorilla family to visit.

Along with the members of your group, and ranger guides, you will leave for the hike in search of the gorilla family assigned to you. This trek will take you between 3-5 hours and once you locate the mountain gorillas you will be allowed 1-hour in their presence observing them and taking photographs. You will then return to the briefing point where you will receive your certificates for a successful trek then drive back to the lodge where you will enjoy an evening of relaxation.

Day 4: Optional Activities/Relaxation

Day four will present you with relaxation and some optional activities to keep you active while at the same time allowing you unwind. You can stay back at the lodge and relax, read a book, join a cooking class or take a walk around the property and talk to some locals, visit the Batwa forest for the Batwa trail experience and watch them showcase their ancient forest medicines, cultures, and drama or go back into the forest for a second encounter of the endangered mountain gorillas.

Day 5: Golden monkey trekking and evening canoe ride on Lake Mutanda

Wake up before 7:00am such that you are at the Ntebeko visitor’s center briefing point by 7:30am. At 8:00am, you will start the hike in search for the golden monkeys in the company of a ranger guide. The hike will take you into the bamboo forest zone for about 2 hours. Once you meet the golden monkeys, you will spend about 1 hour in their presence watching them and taking photographs.

Golden monkeys are a playful and curious species and will be spotted jumping from tree to tree and come closer to you than expected. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation and in the late afternoon join the local fishermen on a canoeing experience across the Lake Mutanda while enjoying beautiful views of the volcanoes. The relaxing ride drops you off for another garden walk to meet your driver uphill and return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Fly to Entebbe and departure

Today will be the last day of your 6-days gorilla safari in Uganda. Wake up to a breakfast at the lodge after which you will check out and with your driver guide, transfer to Kisoro airstrip for your transfer flight from Kisoro to Entebbe. This flight will take you over this gorgeous hilly region allowing you to savour the memories before landing at Entebbe International Airport where you will catch your flight back home.
