Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Masai Mara and Gorilla Trekking Safari

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and be transferred to Masai Mara National Reserve on a journey of about 4-5 hours taking you through the Rift Valley Escarpment and a stop in Narok Town where you will interact with the local people. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, have a short and later in the afternoon go for your first game drive, exploring Masai Mara and enjoying incredible sightings of several animals including lions, cheetahs, cape buffaloes, gazelles, leopards, giraffes, elephants, warthogs among others. At sunset, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full Day Masai Mara Safari

Today you will spend a whole day exploring Masai Mara National Reserve on a full day game drive. Morning and afternoon game drives in Masai Mara offers you an opportunity to explore the savannah plains and spot several wildlife including the Big Cats – lions, leopards and cheetahs. Other animals to lookout for include elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, gazelles, zebras, elands, giraffes among others plus several bird species.

Enjoy lunch at one of the picnic sites in the reserve, where you will feast while spotting wildlife as they pass-by. Continue with the game drives till sunset, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Fly to Kigali City

After breakfast, you will bid farewell to your lodge staff and embark on a journey back to Nairobi where you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight to Kigali City. On landing at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your driver – guide and be transferred to your hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, meet your driver-guide and go for a Kigali City Tour on which you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial where you will take at a trip back to the Rwanda Genocide of 1994 – dark times in Rwanda, visit several Craft shops and Kimironko Market.

After lunch, you will embark on a journey of 3 hours to Volcanoes National Park – the most incredible gorilla trekking destination in Africa. On arrival you will in the late afternoon, check in at your lodge and you get ready for the next day’s adventure. Have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking Experience & Departure Flight

Wake up early for meet breakfast, head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the forest, in groups of 8 people you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek, head into the forest searching for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2-4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and spend one hour in their presence as you watch them play, feed and groom each other.

Later, return to the starting point, meet your driver guide and embark on a journey back to Kigali with en-route lunch. You will be dropped off at the airport to catch your flight back home.
