Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Volcanoes national park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met and greeted by your designated safari driver guide who will welcome you to Rwanda and share with you a briefing about this 4-days primates safari experience. After the briefing, you will board your safari vehicle and transfer to Volcanoes national park where you will check in at your gorilla lodge on arrival.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Iby’iwacu cultural experience

Wake up to a breakfast at the lodge then well dressed in your trekking attire, proceed to the park headquarters for the gorilla trekking briefing. The briefing will begin at 7:30am and during this you will be informed on the code of conduct of gorilla trekking as well as the mountain gorilla behaviour. After the briefing, your driver guide will drop you off at the trail head and then you will start the hike in search of the mountain gorillas. The hike will take you between 3-6 hours and once you locate the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed 1 hour in their presence. After enjoying a majestic one-hour stay with the gorillas, you hike back out of the park and return to the lodge for an afternoon of relaxation. Later in the afternoon, head out for a visit to the Iby’iwacu cultural village during which you will experience the culture of Rwanda through their traditional dances, songs, poems, and dress code.

Day 3: Second Gorilla trekking at volcanoes national park

Just like the previous day, you will wake up for an early enjoy breakfast at the lodge, and then transfer to the Volcanoes national park headquarters for your second gorilla encounter. Once at the park headquarters, settle down for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. After the briefing, your driver guide will transfer you to the trail head where you will begin the trek in search of the mountain gorillas. Once you locate the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed 1-hour in their presence observing them and taking photographs. After enjoying a memorable one-hour stay with the mountain gorillas, you return to the starting point where you will meet your driver guide and return to the lodge.

Day 4: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali

After breakfast at the lodge, you will proceed to the park briefing point for a simple briefing about the dos and don’ts of golden monkey trekking. The briefing will be done at the usual Kinigi park headquarters. The golden monkey trek will take you through the edges of the forest via potato fields and will take between 2-3 hours. After the trek, we shall return to the lodge for a hot lunch. After lunch, check out of the lodge and drive back to Kigali where you will catch your onward flight.
