4 days Gorillas and Akagera safari

These 4-days will offer you a blend of primates, wildlife and an insight into the incidences of the 1994 Rwanda genocide. It will take you from the clean streets of the city of Kigali through the rolling hills and lush vegetation to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable national park, a UNESCO’s world heritage site- home to almost half the total population of the mountain gorillas in the world. You will then wind it up with a relaxing game drive in Akagera national park where you will encounter both carnivores and herbivores.

Gorilla families in RwandaDay 1: Arrival, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park and gorilla encounter

Upon arrival, you will be met and greeted by a professional driver guide who will give you a short briefing into this safari then assist you into the safari vehicle and the before you know it you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable national park for the gorilla trekking experience.

The drive to Bwindi will take you about 4-5 hours and on arrival, you will proceed to the park headquarters. Once at the park headquarters, settle down for a briefing on the dress code and dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. After the briefing, you will be distributed into groups of 8 each group with a park ranger and each group assigned a gorilla family to visit. Your driver guide will then transfer you to the trail head from where you leave to trek the gorillas in their natural thick forest vegetation habitat. This hike will take you between 4-5 hours round trip and once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed a maximum of 1-hour with them.

After the gorilla trek, you will hike out of the forest and receive your certificates for a successful trek then drive back to Kigali for the night.

4 days Gorillas and Akagera safariDay 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park and evening game drive

After a restful night, and proceed to Akagera national park. Upon arrival, you will have your lunch at the lodge then head for an evening game drive in Akagera national park during which you will spot different wildlife and bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Game drive and Boat Safari

Akagera National Park is a Savannah park with Elephants, Hippos, Buffaloes and Lions. After a very early breakfast, we shall take a game drive in search of these animals, the game drive will take us to the northern part of the park where most of the animals prefer to inhabit. Look out for the Zebras, Giraffes and Impalas which are usually scattered along the game tracks. You will have a lunch break after which you take a boat safari on Lake Ihema for a beautiful afternoon breeze and some sighting of birds and wildlife. Later in the evening, we shall drive back to lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

4 days Gorillas and Akagera safariDay 4: Return to Kigali and city tour

Wake up to a breakfast at the lodge then you will check out and drive back to Kigali. On arrival, you will have a lunch stopover in the city of Kigali. After lunch, proceed for sightseeing in the city of Kigali during which you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial, the Belgium peacemaker’s memorial, the local Kimironko market and craft centres. Later, the driver guide will drop you off either at the airport or near the airport ahead of your onward flight.
