On this primate photographic safari, you will come across the world’s most endangered primates, which are the mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys. This safari will take you to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, which is home to the golden monkeys and the mountain gorillas, and Bwindi impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda, which has almost half of the total world’s population of mountain gorillas.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park then golden monkey trekking
A well-trained English-speaking driver guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport at 4:00 am and you embark on your journey to Volcanoes National Park in Kinigi. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, you will be served a hot cup of locally manufactured coffee and briefed on the dos and don’ts of Golden Monkey trekking. In a group of 8, you will search for the golden monkeys. Once you locate them you will be allowed 1 hour to observe them then return to the starting point. From here the driver guide will pick you up and return to the lodge for lunch and an afternoon of relaxation. Dinner will be served in the evening, and then you can take your night’s rest.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Wake up to a nourishing morning breakfast at 6:00 am after which the driver guide will take you to the park headquarters with a packed lunch from the lodge. On arrival, you will go for a briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. As this goes on, the driver guide will choose for you a gorilla family based on your needs or capabilities. After the briefing, he will drop you at the point where the trekking begins. In your group of 8, you will penetrate the forest in search of your gorilla family and once you locate it you will be allowed 1 hour with them. You will then return to the starting point where you will meet the driver guide and return to the lodge where you will clean up, check out, and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking
Breakfast will be served at 6 am and then the lodge will provide you with a packed lunch. You will be picked up by the guide who will lead you to the park headquarters where you will be briefed on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking before you are divided into groups of 8 people. With the ranger guide, you will go into the forest in search of the gorilla family assigned to your group and this takes about 2-8 hours hence do carry enough water to keep you hydrated. Upon finding the gorillas, you will be allowed 1 hour in their presence. You will then return to the starting point for a gorilla trekking certificate before heading back to the lodges for rest.
You can opt for a Batwa community experience in the afternoon where you will interact with the Batwa pygmies rather than spend it relaxing at the lodge. Dinner will be served at the lodge in the evening.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali
After enjoying a proper night’s rest from the long day of gorilla trekking, you will be served a delicious morning breakfast after which you will check out of the lodge and embark on your journey to Kigali enjoying the magnificent landscape en route. Drop-off will either be at the airport or your hotel in Kigali.
