10 days mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro and Serengeti wildlife Safari

These 10 days in Tanzania will take you from the city of Arusha to the peak of the tallest free standing mountain in Africa on a 5 days hike through the Marangu route, then to Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO’s World Heritage site best known for its abundant wildlife and being home to the annual Great wildebeest migration. It will also lead you to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, particularly to the Ngorongoro crater, the world’s largest caldera renowned for its beautiful crater rim view and having a variety of wildlife species such as buffalos, lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, cheetahs, among others.

Detailed Itinerary of 10 days mount  Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro and Serengeti wildlife Safari 

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Kilimanjaro

On the  first day  of 10 days mount  Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro and Serengeti wildlife Safari, Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will meet your destination driver guide who will welcome you to Tanzania, give you a short briefing then transfer you to your lodge near Mount Kilimanjaro where you will stay the night as you await the next day’s hike.

Day 2: Marangu Gate (1830m) to Mandara Huts (2740m)

on day 2 of 10 days mount  Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro and Serengeti wildlife Safari , Early morning, the lodge will provide you with breakfast and a packed lunch after which your driver guide will take you to the Marangu Gate. Here you will register, pick up your hiking permits then meet the porters and the local Kilimanjaro guides and start your first day of the hike. This hike leads you through a clear trail within the rainforest that takes you past streams, mini waterfalls, and over wooden bridges to the montane forest.

This hike from Marangu Gate to Mandara Huts takes approximately 6 hours.

Day 3: Mandara Huts (2740m) to Horombo Huts (3690m)

Early morning after cleaning up, breakfast will be served then you will pick up a packed lunch and head out for today’s hike. This hike will start within the rainforest zone and this will last for about 4 hours then later advance to the moorland vegetation characterized by grassy plants and yellow flowers.

This hike from Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts generally takes between 6 to 7 hours.

Day 4: Horombo Huts (3690m) to Kibo Huts (4695m)

The porters will provide you with breakfast, then you will pick up a packed lunch for the day and begin your final hike before the summit day. This hike will take you through the Alpine desert and takes approximately 5 hours.

This day’s hike is shorter compared to the other earlier days. This is to allow you take an early rest in preparation for the summit day.

• Overnight at Kibo Huts

Day 5: Kibo Huts (4695m) to Summit (5895m) then back to Horombo Huts (3690m)

After having some rest, you will wake up in the night for an early snack and prepare for the summit hike that will begin at midnight. This hike will take you through the rocky path under the moonlight past the Gilman’s point as the day dawns. You will have a stopover at the Hans Meyer Cave where you will have a short rest and refuel.

From the Gilman’s point, it will take you about 30 minutes to the Stella point from where you will hike for about more 45 minutes before summiting Uhuru.

After spending about 45 minutes at Uhuru peak, you will then begin your descend hike back to Kibo hut where you will take a short rest, have a snack then descend further to Horombo Huts where you will stay the night. This descend from Kibo Huts to Horombo Hut is easier compared to the first descend from the summit.

Day 6: Horombo Huts (3690m) to Marangu Gate (1830m) and transfer to Arusha

=day  6 of 10 days mount  Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro and Serengeti wildlife Safari,  After a breakfast in the morning, you will begin a 7-hours descend hike from the Horombo Huts, past the Mandara Huts down to the Marangu gate. Here you will meet your driver guide and proceed to Arusha. Upon arrival in Arusha, you will check into your hotel where you will have dinner then take your rest for the day.

Day 7: Transfer from Arusha to Serengeti National Park

In the morning, the hotel will provide you with a breakfast after which you will aboard your safari vehicle and with your driver guide embark on a scenic 6 to 7 hours’ drive to Central Serengeti with a lunch stopover en route. You will arrive in Serengeti in the evening and proceed on a short evening game drive then continue to the lodge where you will have your dinner and stay the night.

Day 8: Full day game drive in Central Serengeti

Arise very early in the morning, settle down for breakfast then pick up a packed lunch for the day and checkout ready to explore the vast Serengeti plains. You will meet your driver guide at the lodge and head out in your safari vehicle for a game drive. During the game drive, you will spot numerous wildlife such as lions, leopards, buffaloes, African elephants, rhinoceros, and a variety of bird species. In the afternoon, you will stop for a picnic lunch in the park then continue on more wildlife viewing for about 2 hours after which you will drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

You will arrive at the lodge in time for dinner after which you will take your rest for the day.

Day 9: Full day Ngorongoro

After an early morning breakfast at the lodge, pack up a picnic lunch for the day and head out to the Ngorongoro Crater. Once in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will have a stopover at the Ngorongoro crater rim and enjoy the beautiful view of the Ngorongoro crater floor before driving down to the crater floor. During the game drive in the Ngorongoro crater, you will spot numerous wildlife such as lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinoceros, zebras, hippos, giraffes, among others. You will have a stopover by the lake for a picnic lunch as you enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Ngorongoro crater.

Later in the evening after the game viewing you will drive back to the lodge where you will have your breakfast and stay the night.

Day 10: Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport

On the last  day of 10 days mount  Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro and Serengeti wildlife Safari , In the morning you will have a nourishing breakfast at the lodge then you will checkout and with your driver begin your return journey to Arusha. Your driver guide will then drop you off either at your hotel or at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will take your flight to the next destination.
